Over time, uniforms and gear for cops have evolved in the United Kingdom. When compared to the early uniforms and equipment worn by mainstream police in the 19th century, many of the changes that have been made today were directly influenced by laws and regulations passed from the mid-19th century till date. Uniforms and equipment for UK police have become increasingly standardized.
Since the British police began using bicycles, swords, and pistols in the 1970s, the gear and uniform have been evolving and improving. Depending on the situation, they may adapt a uniform consisting of a white shirt, black tie, reflective jacket, body armor, and a Battenburg car if or when they want to keep their older appearance. The British police today have high-tech gadgets, such as police gadgets, Airwave Solutions radios, and electric vehicles with tasers. I think it’s a welcome step forward that we all love to see.
These days, a uniformed police officer in the UK carries a few items in their duty belt. Most of them carry an ASP or Monadnock baton, an extendable or collapsible baton, a Motorola or Sepura personal radio, and Incapacitant Spray or CS/PAVA. Also available are essentials such as pens, pocketknife, a regular police notebook, smartphone and a few basic first aid kits. Getting tickets from the PNC, issuing tickets, and taking statements all require these cards.
In addition to restraint gear, such as leg restraints and TCH rigid cuffs, we cannot forget the necessity of an old-school torch. Additionally, you might find X-26/X2-type tasers. Initially, they were meant for specially trained officers, but some agencies now regularly issue them to non-specialists. First aid kits are also common piece of equipment found among other police gear in patrol cars.
