Why the MICH is a better replacement for the PASGT

There are several tactical and combat helmets used by the U.S Army. The MICH or communication helmet is one of the next generation protective head gear in use. Initially, the MICH was designed to be a replacement for the PASGT helmet. It was also going to be used for non-ballistic uses (as a tactical bump helmet) such as cycling, and skateboarding. Released by the United States Army Soldier Systems Center in 2001, the MICH was originally going to be used by the U.S. Army Special Operation Command.

Although the PASGT provided wearers with ballistic protection, it however, suffered soldiers with its heavy weight. The MICH was introduced to the special ops to give them the comfortable experience of a light, yet protective tactical helmet. It provides better fitting and allows the easy attachment of necessary accessories and gears. With the MICH, NVGs and communication headsets can easily be affixed to ensure that soldiers are properly kitted at night and in low-lightconditions.No matter how important it is, you cannot attach extra accessories to an already heavy helmet. The light weight feature of the MICH made it a good alternative for mounting essential gears and accessories.

The weight of the MICH helmet spans from about3 lb (1.36kg) for the medium sized to 3.6 lb (1.63 kg) for the extra large size. More importantly, its light weight feature doesn’t sacrifice the level of ballistic rated protection it offers. The MICH is made from the most advanced Kevlar material and it provides up to Level IIIA NIJ standard of ballistic protection. This means that this helmet can withstand most common handguns rounds as well as the 9mm and .44 magnum rounds.

It protects the bullets from getting in and also from affecting the head with its padding system. The padded inner of the helmet helps reduce the impact trauma of the bullet hit.
