Are all tactical helmets ballistic?

Simple and straightforward, Nope! But let’s dive into it a little, shall we?

Tactical helmets are special headgears worn for the protection of the head during combat, military, or other uses. There are basically two kinds of tactical helmets – ballistic helmets and bump helmets.

Ballistic helmets are specially made protective head gears that are specifically made to withstand ballistic threats and stop bullets. Hence, they are often made from ballistic-resistant materials that can allow them to possess great resistant features. However, bump helmets, on the other hand are made with all the sturdiness and resistance of a ballistic helmet but without the ballistic resistance.

This means that bump helmets are also worn to protect the head of the wearer from severe head injuries, collision, concussion, or flying objects. However, they do not offer ballistic resistant protection.

Choosing whether or not a bump helmet is what you need is totally up to you. If you need to protect your head from paint ball shots and rock falling during a mountain hike, then go for it. But if you’re a military officer thinking that a bump helmet will keep you safe during a gun showdown, well, may the force be with you!

Not everyone buys the idea of wearing a helmet that can offer 100% protection. And we get that. I mean, the major reason why you would wear a helmet in the first place is to get protection. However, not everyone needs a ballistic helmet. Some ballistic helmets might just be too heavy for the head.

Bump helmets also give you the versatility of a regular ballistic helmet. Some manufacturers have their bump helmet products designed to accommodate attachments and gear accessories. So, you can attach you NVG, cameras, battery packs, and flash lights.
